Go Chuckster

Hi, I'm Charlie. I'm a swimmer/cyclist/runner and when I'm not I work for the internets. I also do a little photography on the sly.

Deep-Powder skiing in Utah.  Shot exculsively with a Canon 5D Mk2 (w/ 15mm fisheye lens).  I was initially skeptical of this camera’s ability to capture clear video on par with a camcorder of equivalent cost.  The camera body alone is over $3,500.00, and then add the cost of a professional grade “L” lens, it puts the rig in the neighborhood of a uber quality Panasonic HVX unit (which we use almost exclusively for our videos).

The only real significant jump up from these options is a studio-quality camera (which will put you back at least 5 figures).

I had to commend the cameramen for their ability to capture a really unique looking ski-run and for picking such an awesome day to shoot.  I tried this same thing this past weekend in New Jersey and an all-day blizzard de-railed my attempts.  Plus, powder-caked mountains cannot be matched by fake Jersey hills.  So take that with a grain of salt.

Hopefully by my next trip to a decent mountain I’ll be better prepared to shoot handheld, while skiing.
