Dan Slott (Amazing Spider-Man, Mighty Avengers) at Comic Book Club tonight at the PIT (peoples improv theater). He told a story about working as a college intern for the Daily Star line of comics and that the best letters he’d get for characters like Alf and Archie, etc. were from mental institutions.
He said far and away the best letter was from a huge fan of Barbie. The writer wrote the usual fan diatribe about loving the character, etc. When Slott looked to the end to see how old the fan was, the caption wrote “I included a picture of me with my guns” there was a picture of an old man who looked like he could be Clint Eastwood’s father holding his guns up near his face. Yikes!
That definitely tops the mental patient who thought Alf was god.
